The Oak Hill Boys Ranch features challenging recreation programs as the highlight of its varied activities and structured days. Recreation is used to teach children cooperation skills, social skills, personal accountability, health and physical fitness, as well as how to occupy free time constructively. Recreation provides a basis for fun times, relationship building, the constructive release of energy, and enhance the process of nurturing of self esteem. Carefully tailored games take into account skill levels, developmental levels, complexity of rules, and encourage children to acquire a sense of achievement and healthy attitudes. Recreation programs also aid child and youth care staff by serving as an aid to observation and assessment.

Team sports such as ice hockey, soccer, football, baseball, volleyball and basketball are the most popular activities offered at the Ranch. Residents are eager to participate in such activities both at the Ranch and in the community. Residents have played on community hockey and football teams, and others benefited from various sports camps and lessons. Other activities offered at the Ranch include wrestling, track & field, weightlifting, golfing, bike riding, canoeing, cross country skiing, tobogganing, snowshoeing, and a challenge trail. Popular pastimes also include playing pool, foosball, air hockey, as well as various video and board games. For the more artistically inclined, the Ranch offers guitar and drumming lessons, and some of the bolder residents take on the karaoke machine. Staff and residents participate in a drama club that operates through the winter. Residents also have access to an arts & crafts room where they construct and paint models, as well as play with electric road racing sets or lego.
